Almer Battin, 78, of Coal Valley, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Friday, February 4, 2022.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
The family requests that all memorials be made either to the family or QC Paws. Almer always had a soft spot for his dogs.
Almer was born July 18, 1943, in Rock Island, IL, son of Sewell and Lorraine (Johnson) Battin. He met the love of his life, Elsie (Rosie), in Chicago in 1969. They had 4 sons and finally tied the knot in July of 1977.
He was definitely a jack of all trades and could do anything. He owned a gas station in Peoria before moving back to the Quad City area to work at John Deere Foundry for 20 years before he retired. In his spare time, he loved to wrench on cars with his buddies and ride motorcycles. He collected many things throughout his life and loved to buy and sell (mostly buy). Most of all, Almer was proud of his family. He was happiest when his kids, and especially grandkids, came to visit with him.
In addition to his spouse, Elsie, survivors include his children; Al’sson (Heather), Denzil (Erica), Popiel (Laura), Jor-El, and Dan (Bonnie) Hall, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Cheryl and Sue, 1 brother, Don; and his cousin, Brad.
Special mention to the Lawver family for taking Almer in when he was younger. They always treated him as their own and accepted all of the Battin’s as their family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sewell and Lorraine; brother, William, his sister, Anita; and special friends Huck, Wayne, Jerry, and Big Dan.
Condolences may be expressed on his memory wall.
