It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Angela Jean (Schmitt) Gillette on June 19, 2023. Born in Rock Island, Illinois, Angie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth, humor, and generosity.
Angie married her high school sweetheart, Brian Gillette. Always joined at the hip, they shared nearly 50 years of love, partnership, and mirth-they always knew how to tickle each other's funny bones. They loved taking quiet drives in the country.
She and Brian built a thriving business that started in the family basement and grew to employ more than a dozen people. Later in life, she worked as a bank teller, where her attention to detail earned her the trust of her coworkers and the keys to the safe.
She cherished the time spent baking and creating memories with her beloved grandchildren. Her Halloween treats and Easter baskets were the stuff of legend-over the years, she gifted enough plush bunnies to fill an FAO Schwarz.
Angie could always be counted on for a joke that would make you laugh and blush in equal measure. A generous spirit, she had a knack for finding little treasures and gifts to share with those she loved.
She cooked elaborate meals with an uncommon attention to detail-the chop of her leafy greens would have passed muster at any five-star eatery. She was an avid reader who didn't consider revisiting her favorite books a vice, often returning to the works of Jane Austen.
Angie is survived by her devoted husband, Brian Gillette; her children, Aaron (Meg) Gillette, Nate (Mayela) Gillette, and Rachel (Todd) Barnes; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Adrian Gillette, and Grace and Beau Barnes; her sisters, Amy (Steve) Castrey, and Anita (Aron) Johnson; and countless extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy (Aversing) Pruden, and her father, Harvey Schmitt.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass to celebrate Angie's life at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Iowa on July 1st, 2023 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (https://give.bcrf.org) in Angie's memory.
Angie will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her warm spirit, infectious laughter, and loving heart will live on in the many lives she touched.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on her Memory Wall at mvcremation.com.
