Anita Schutman

Anita T. Schutman, 95, of Bettendorf, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, surrounded by her family.

Anita was born on September 13,1929 in Rock Island, IL to Celia and Jack Racine. She grew up in Chicago, IL and moved back to Rock Island when she was 15 years old. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She married Joseph Schutman on November 2, 1946. Anita worked with her best friend and husband Joe owning Schutman’s clothing store for over 50 years.

Anita was a Cub Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader and was active in the PTA while her children were growing up. She was a member of Tri City Jewish Center, Beth Israel Sisterhood and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities. Anita was an avid Mah Jongg player having played for about 70 years, and she loved to read.

Anita is survived by her children Larry (Kathy) Schutman, Jayne (Gary) Kamp, Michael (Debbie) Schutman and her grandchildren Amy Kamp, Sara (Chip) Walters, Ben (Becky) Schutman, Alex (Megan) Schutman, Heather (Scott) Harris, Eric (Zahara) Schutman, Shana (Lawrence) Chan and Erica (Joshua) Peterson. Anita had 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Travis Racine and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Schutman, her parents, her in-laws Celia and Meyer Schutman, and a sister Estelle Nitti.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Beit Shalom in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tri-City Jewish Center, Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
