Barbara Joan Medley died peacefully at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House on Wednesday, November 10th 2022 at the age of 72. Family and friends will honor her memory as we gather together for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Davenport, Iowa, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
Barb was one of nine children, born on October 20, 1950 in Davenport, IA, to Walter (Jerry) and Marion Rose (Mickey) Nickels. She graduated from West High School in 1968 and pursued a career in cosmetology. She met and married Bob Medley and they enjoyed a loving marriage until his death in 2021. They resided in Smithville, Tennessee and retired to their dream home, a log cabin on Center Hill Lake. Their home was always a welcome destination for family and friends. Food, fun, family and fishing were highlights of their life in Tennessee and they joyously shared what they had with all who entered their home. Bob had children from a previous marriage, and together, he and Barb raised those children into adulthood. Their family continued to grow through the years with the addition of several foster children. Barb touched the lives of many children and always had a special place in her heart for them.
Her life centered on her deep Christian faith and love of family. She and Bob taught their children by example and helping others was always first and foremost in their lives. Barb had a fun side to her personality and was always the life of a party. If there was a good time, you can bet that Barb would be in the middle of it and it’s one of the things that we’ll miss most about her. She always made things “just a little bit better”.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeana Medley Osborne, Davenport IA and Steven Medley, Davenport IA, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Her siblings include Sharon Stoneburner Albery (Mark), Bettendorf, IA; Steven Nickels (Lucija), Seneca, WI; Deb Nickels, Bettendorf, IA; Matt Nickels (Mindy) Davenport, IA; Linda Maes (Mitchell) Bettendorf, IA; Mark Nickels (Jane), Davenport, IA; Laurie Williams, Bettendorf, IA.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Mickey Nickels; a sister, Pam Ford (Dennis Ford of Port Byron, IL); a niece, Justine Rose Williams and brother-in-laws, Edward Williams and Robert Albery.
Rest in Peace dear Barb. You are loved and your memory will live on in our hearts forever.
