Barbara (Bohnert) Proeger, 66, of Prophetstown, IL, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at her home.
Barbara was born November 17, 1956, to Edgar R. and Loretta (Dirck) Bohnert in Aledo, IL. She married Wayne C. Proeger on November 26, 1977, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Port Byron, IL.
She was a 1974 graduate of Erie High School. She received her B.S. from Western Illinois University in Macomb in 1977 and her Master's degree from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, in 1991. It was a delight for her to return to the Erie School District and serve as a librarian for 31 years, retiring in 2022.
When she wasn't working, she enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, cooking, and reading. Barb will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them and watching them in their various activities.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, daughter Julia (Richard) Harris, and their children Reece, Annalyce, Zoey Harris, Ebony Wilson of Rochelle, IL, and Wendy Wilson of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by their son, Daniel Proeger, Hutchinson, KS, and sister, Pamela Kester of Bloomington, IL. Other survivors include her in-laws Linden Proeger, Dale, and Darlene Proeger, all of Prophetstown, IL, and LinMarie and Kendall Stephenson of Cedar Rapids, IA, along with cousins, nieces, and nephews, Aunt Beverly and Uncle Kenneth Bonnen of Illinois City, IL, Aunt Doris Dirck of Geneseo, IL, and Aunt Jean Margheim of Rochelle, IL.
She was preceded by her parents, grandparents, and mother-in-law, Carol Proeger.
At her request, there are no visitation or graveside services. Cremation rights will be accorded by Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, Moline, IL.
