Betty Lou Krenek, known to the world as just "Betty," has taken the checkered flag, peacefully crossing the finish line of life on October 23, 2023. Born on October 16, 1929, in Burlington, she was a great wife, mother and grandmother.
After completing her education at Burlington High School in 1947, she jumped right into the workforce, joining the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She also worked at Medic as a clarical worker and then finally retired from CG Insurance Company in 1991.
Betty married Richard Krenek in May of 1949. Their love produced a beautiful daughter, Marcia (Marcie is what she referred to her as) who married Louis Schnack and they, in turn, gave them the joy of a granddaughter, Erin Armstrong "Schnack," and a grandson-in-law, Ryan Armstrong. Betty's family was her pit crew, always there to fuel her up with love, encouragement and cinnamon rolls.
Now, let's talk about Betty's real passion: World of Outlaws Sprint Car racing. Whether she was cheering from the stands or comfortably parked in her favorite chair at home, Betty was a diehard fan. The thrill of the chase, the roar of the engines, the high octane racing fuel- this was Betty's version of a day at the spa. And let's not forget her emmense love for horses. She absolutely loved the feeling of simply being around them, even down to the smell of the barn.
Betty found genuine joy in life's simple pleasures - riding in a fast car, eating her favorite pecan waffle, and sitting outside listening to the birds and soaking up the sun. She may have crossed the finish line, but her spirit continues to lap us all, a constant reminder to live life in the fast lane and to never underestimate the power of a good race.
So here's to you, Betty Lou Krenek, may your next adventure be as thrilling as a sprint car race, as comforting as your favorite chair, and filled with the love of all the pets awaiting you at the rainbow bridge. We'll miss you, Betty, but we know we will be able to meet you on the other side.
