Charles L McGill, Jr., fondly known as "Skip," was born in Davenport, Iowa on October 3, 1957. He passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House. Skip was a beloved figure, cherished for his smart, kind demeanor and good sense of humor, which brought joy to those who knew him.
A 1976 graduate of Central High School in Davenport, Skip honorably served in the United States Air Force, a testament to his commitment to his country and community. His bravery and integrity were evident both in his service and in his everyday life. Skip then embarked on a fulfilling career as a Journeyman Machinist. He dedicated many years of his life to prominent companies including Bowe Machine Co., General Electric, and Alcoa. He served as the President of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 105 from 2002 to 2012, advocating for the rights and welfare of his fellow workers.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his son Sean, (Whitney), and granddaughter Ruby McGill. Son Ryan (Jamie Higginbotham) He is also survived by his siblings Sherida Behm, Rick (Marlene) McGill, Laura (Marv) Drumm, as well as his step-father, Robert Cobb and his fiancé, Pam. Additionally, Skip leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Skip was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Cobb; his father, Charles L. McGill Sr; his stepmother, Joan McGill; and sister-in-law Donna McGill.
His legacy of kindness and dedication will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Skip McGill will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loving family and friends.
