David Eugene Jacobs, known affectionately as Dave to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, in Davenport, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 3, 1956, in Danville, IL, Dave's zest for life and his kind-hearted nature touched all those around him throughout his 67 years.
Dave was a man of great integrity and strength, qualities that shone brightly both in his personal life and his professional endeavors. A proud graduate of Moline High School, he brought his strong work ethic to the John Frey company, where he worked diligently as a machine operator. His commitment to excellence continued until he retired from Utility Equipment Company, leaving a legacy of dedication and camaraderie.
In his personal life, Dave was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his adoring children, Christine Jacobs of Coal Valley, IL, James (Crystal) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids, IA, step-daughter Tami Bugay of Moline, IL, and step-son John Unverzagt of Coal Valley, IL. His grandchildren, Jazmine Bugay-Williams, Devan Jacobs, Adrian McBride, Nevaeh Faison, Rickey Robinson, Amaiah Robinson, Paige Jacobs, Dominick Bea, and Morgan Jacobs, brought him immeasurable joy, as did his great-grandchildren, Kole Jacobs, Khloe Jacobs, and the soon-to-be-born baby girl McBride. He was a cherished brother to Daniel Jacobs and Robert Trask, both of Coal Valley and Renee Trask of Florida. Dave's larger-than-life presence will be profoundly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Dave was preceded in passing by his parents, two brothers, and former wife Brenda Jacobs. His memory will serve as a bridge connecting the past to the present and future generations.
Dave's passions were as varied as they were rich. Each autumn, he eagerly anticipated bow hunting for deer, a tradition that allowed him to connect with nature and the quiet strength of the wilderness. His love for the outdoors was mirrored in his devotion to his fish tanks and his care in cultivating his plants, creating a sanctuary of tranquility within his home. Always one to keep his hands busy, Dave found great satisfaction in working on various projects, embracing the joy of creation and the fulfillment of seeing tasks through to completion.
As he often reminded his loved ones, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," a sentiment famously expressed by Steve Jobs. Dave's life was a testament to this belief, as he approached every endeavor with passion and a heart full of love.
The memory of Dave Jacobs will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told, the laughter shared, and the wisdom imparted. His legacy is one of love, perseverance, and the beauty of a life well-lived. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in the coming days and years.
Dave's light will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved him, and his memory will be a source of comfort and strength to his family and friends.
