Dennis G. Shadle, a man who knew the difference between a weed and a flower, and how to make a lawn look like a golf course, left this world on September 22, 2023. Born in the heartland of Clinton, Iowa, on August 20, 1958, Dennis was the kind of guy who could turn a patch of dirt into a green oasis. He passed away in his home in Fulton, Illinois, proving that you can take the boy out of Iowa, but you can't take Iowa out of the boy.
Dennis was the proud owner and operator of Dennis's Lawn Care Service. He didn't just mow lawns, he styled them. He took pride in his lawns. "If you think it's easy being green, try being a lawn under my care!" His dedication and humor garnered him a loyal clientele who often claimed their lawns were the "envy of the neighborhood."
Alongside his siblings Donnie, Jeff, and Russell Shadle, and his life partner, Linda, Dennis lived life to the fullest. His family was his rock, his anchor, and often the butt of his jokes. He was the kind of brother who would help you hide a body, but would never let you forget it. As for Linda, she was his compass, his north star, and the one who laughed at his jokes even when they weren't funny.
A graduate of Clinton High School, Dennis was quick to point out that his education didn't end there. He was a lifelong learner, especially when it came to his interests. Whether he was camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle, or working on cars, he was always up for a new adventure or a new joke to tell. He often said, "The best way to learn is to do, and the best way to do is with a smile on your face."
Dennis loved his dogs, even when they dug up his perfectly manicured lawns. He believed that a house wasn’t a home without a dog, and a dog wasn’t a dog without a little bit of mischief. He often said, “My dogs teach me everything I need to know about loyalty, love, and how to dig a hole.”
In his passing, Dennis leaves behind his imprint on the world. He was a man who lived life on his own terms. He will be remembered not just for his green thumb, but also his love for his friends, family and his fur babies.
In the end, Dennis fought Leukemia like he lived his life - with courage, and a determination that was as stubborn as a dandelion in the middle of one of his pristine lawns. He will be missed, but his laughter and his spirit will continue to grow in the hearts of those he left behind, just like the lawns he so lovingly cared for.
