Long story short, Dennis Woods, 78, passed away Friday, December 3rd in Bettendorf, Iowa. Per his wishes, cremation with direct inurnment will be done. There will be no visitation or service, but donations can be made to The American Cancer Society on his behalf.

Dennis was born March 23, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa to Raymond B. and Vernetta K. (Makoben) Woods. He was married to Marlene Asay, and later to Lynn Reading-Woods.

Dennis served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1999.

He had a life long love of cars. He raced stock cars in the late 1970’s and more recently was a member of the Quad City Cruisers. Up until 2 years ago he was playing full court basketball with guys half his age. He was a beast on the court and crushed 3 point shots. His favorite movie was “ The Car”, which he forced his children to watch every Christmas. He had a love/hate relationship with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Later in life, Dennis loved traveling, from Los Angeles to Paris to New Zealand.

Dennis is survived by sons, Dennis (Ruth) Woods, Bettendorf,IA, Christopher Woods, Denver, CO, and Bryan (Julia) Woods, Los Angeles, CA. Grandchildren Taylor (Dallas) and McKenna. Great granddaughter Callie. Sister Dianne Garner, Nunnelly TN. Niece and nephews Melissa (Eric), Josh (Tristin), and Joe (Lisa), and girlfriend Laura Wren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his Father and Mother.

He loved his sons, cars, and women, but not necessarily in that order.
And as Dennis always said, “It is what it is”.
