Donald Lee Metzner Jr., 77, of Coal Valley, IL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022, at his home. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. No services are scheduled at this time.
He was born on May 9, 1944, in Monmouth, IL, the son of Donald Lee and Hazel (Dismuke) Metzner, Sr. He married the love of his life, Sandra Gravitt, on May 9, 1964, in Milan, IL, she survives. Most of Don's career was spent working for JI Case and CNH Burlington as a painter. He was very proud to have completed the certification courses for robotics and automation literacy with great success, He retired from CNH Burlington in 2002.
Donald's enjoyments included fishing, working in the yard, and he had a passion for restoring tractors and cars. He was handy in every task he endeavored, paying meticulous attention to every detail. Don loved people and considered no one a stranger; he would take tremendous joy in talking to anyone and everyone. His biggest love in life was his family, always putting them first and above all else; he was the best husband and father and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra, and his daughter Michelle (John) Sullivan, Joy, IL; brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were his parents, three brothers, along with his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Art and Marie Gravitt.
