Ellen Jane Faye James, 81 of Hampton, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4th, in the comfort of her home.
Ellen Jane Faye James, was born March 2, 1942, in Sheraton, Iowa, to Lawrence and Faye Johnson. She attended
Davenport High School. She married David M. James on February 8, 1963, in Davenport, Iowa. She worked various jobs throughout her life, spending more than 30 years at Walmart before retiring in 2020.
Ellen was the matriarch of her family and was quite a stubborn little spitfire. She was never afraid to share her thoughts, especially her disdain for eating chicken, and that Sierra Mist was not an adequate substitute for Sprite. She loved traveling, taking many road-trips all over the country, excited to share her experiences upon returning home. She never missed an opportunity to site see, even if she was the one driving. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, NASCAR races, mints, biscuits and gravy, chocolate licorice, always had her chapstick, and made the best cinnamon rolls.
Ellen loved her family and her three dogs more than anything and spent any time she could with them. She could always be counted on to show up and was always willing to help. Ellen never knew a stranger; if you knew a member of her family, no doubt you knew and loved Ellen too. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
Those left to cherish Ellen’s memory are her children, Scott (Maggie) James of Davenport, Iowa, Shawn (Marsha) James of Eldridge, Iowa, Mitzie James of East Moline, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Kristi (Josh) Francis, Chris (Jessie) James, Brittany James, Jennifer (Adam) Johnson, Megan (Sara) Davidson, Katie James, Andy James, Emily James; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband David James, her parents and her four brothers and their spouses.
At Ellen’s request, there will be no funeral service, however a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a date to be
determined.
