Gloria Jean Claeys, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 28th, 2024. She was like the Energizer Bunny who kept going and going until her heart gave out.
Gloria was a character who didn’t know a stranger. She was outgoing, giving, caring and would do anything for anyone. She was a hard worker and was always moving and doing, she couldn’t sit still. When she did she enjoyed reading mysteries, doing word search puzzles and watching TV. She enjoyed watching Cooking shows,Wheel of Fortune, Dateline, 48 Hours and 20/20. She also liked watching movies. She loved playing double solitaire and whenever we gathered as a family we would have a tournament. We also played rummy. She loved her pet dogs and loved feeding the birds, squirrels and feral cats. She also loved pulling weeds, mowing and gardening. She was a good cook and was famous for her pot roasts and tacos.
Gloria was born September 29th, 1941. Gloria was a part of the first class to graduate from the new Moline High School in 1959. Gloria was a cheerleader and a dancer. Gloria spent most of her life working as a phlebotomist. She learned how to draw blood on the job and she was the one they called to do all of the hard sticks on cancer patients and babies. She could always find their veins. She was a phlebotomist for over forty years. She loved her job and the patients and would have worked even longer if it wasn’t for all of the changes in technology.
Gloria loved Jesus and wasn’t afraid to share that love with others. She really loved Lifebridge Church and all of the new friends that she was getting to know there. She invited her friends and was excited about coming to church, life group and lunches. She will be greatly missed by all of the lives that she touched.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Lori Palmgren and Jeff Claeys (Mimi). Six grandchildren, Michael Wells, Jorie Burkhead (Sam), Josh Claeys (Caroline), Jayden Claeys (Azaria), Matt Tiller (Liz) and Sabrina Cisneros (Chris) and eight great grandchildren.
Those preceding her in death were her parents Ed and Elsie Anderson, two brothers, David Lee and Skipper, her sister Wanda and her son Jerry Claeys. Oh what a glorious reunion she is having in heaven.
Visitation is on August 10th, 2024 from 10:30 to 12:00 and the memorial service begins at noon at LifeBridge Church 1107 Wisconsin Avenue Davenport, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to cover expenses.
