Hudson D. Harris, a cherished soul known for his infectious laughter and warm heart, passed away on December 6, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on September 29, 1954, in Moline, Illinois, Hudson's life was a tapestry of love, service, and joy that touched many.
A Graveside service will be at 12:00 pm, Friday, December 15, 2023, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at 11:30 am at Wendt Funeral Home to join the processional.
Hudson grew up in the close-knit community of Moline, where he attended Moline High School, forming friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the Army, receiving honors for his dedication and hard work. His commitment to excellence continued throughout his career with Allied and Mayflower, where he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.
Hudson's life was filled with the love of his family. He leaves behind his beloved sister, June Harris; his devoted daughter, Chanel Harris; and his son, Milo Harris, who will carry on his legacy of kindness. His grandsons, the joys of his life, will miss their grandfather's playful spirit and gentle guidance. Hudson's life-long companion, Betty Warren, and her family, shared a bond with Hudson that was deeply rooted in love and mutual respect.
Though Hudson was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Cole-Harris; father, Hudson Harris Sr.; twin sister, Hysonja Harris Davis; and sisters, JoAnne Harris, Joyce Elaine Gillis, Yvonne Johnson, and Alberta Free, his memory will live on through the stories and laughter he left behind.
Hudson had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew him. He was the life of any gathering, often found playing cards with family and friends, where his humor and quick wit were as much a part of the game as the cards themselves. His laughter was contagious, and he had a natural talent for telling jokes that could lighten any mood.
A simple pleasure in Hudson's life was enjoying a cold beer, a symbol of the relaxed and easy-going nature that endeared him to so many. He also found joy in the simple routine of watching "Family Feud" with Betty, where they shared many laughs and good-natured competition.
Hudson's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the importance of family. He was a man who knew the value of a good joke, the warmth of a close-knit family, and the simple pleasures of life. His presence will be profoundly missed by his sister, children, grandsons, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a host of friends who were all blessed to know him.
As we say farewell to Hudson D. Harris, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His spirit will continue to inspire and bring smiles to the faces of those who remember him. Hudson's journey on earth has ended, but his story will be told for generations, a testament to a life filled with joy, service, and an abundance of love.
