James L. Williams, 81, of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022, at his home. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. No services are scheduled at this time.
James was born November 20, 1940, in Alamo, TX, the son of Ralph Williams and Jesse Mae (Galbreth) Rhodes. To all that knew him, he was a loving and hardworking man who loved working on cars and reading. He had a passion for knowledge. A favorite memory recalled by his daughter was one of him cooking a goulash dinner for the family every time someone would go to the dentist. He enjoyed country-western music, and his favorite saying was: "Going to see a man about a horse" and "he was always reading the back of his eyelids."
Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Jamasima Walton of Germantown, MD, James Lee Walton, Andrea Walton, and Andre Walton;; ten grandchildren: Jacqueline Dunner, Adrianna Thomas, Tory Sampson, Brittany Walton, Arianna Walton, Jordan Walton, Xavier Rogers, Natasha Rogers, Natisha Rogers, and Salmon Rogers; Aunt Clara Jean Williams Hill; a brother, Claudie C. Galbreth; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A message from his daughter, Jamasima: "You did well. You were a great father and provided. You cared for and embraced everyone you came in contact with. You raised us right, so rest easy knowing that we will be fine. I love you, daddy."
