In Janis's early years, she attended Grant Elementary and Rock Island High School for some time. Janis's career of choice was as a dietary aide at the west campus of Genesis Medical Center. She enjoyed and spent many years working for them. Janis loved to sing. Her voice was so sweet and just amazing to listen to. She was a faithful choir member of Greater Antioch Baptist Church throughout her membership. To know Janis’s sense of humor was to know her. She loved making people laugh. One of her favorite sayings was, “Say it to my face!” Janis was a true child of God, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever possible, not only with church. Janis is affectionately known to her grandchildren as "Nanee", is the glue to the family. Whether it was giving motivational encouraging speeches or just being a diary to which anyone can turn, Janis opened her arms with nurture and care to anyone. Janis accepted you and would encourage you to be yourself and come as you are. Janis loved the family she came from and the one she created.
