Jerry Hickman, 68, of Davenport, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Clarissa C Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. The family would like to extend a special thank you to both the Clarissa Cook Hospice house staff and the medical staff at the Iowa City Medical University for taken such good and compassionate care of our dad in his final days.
Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 12 noon with a visitation from 11-12 pm, at Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial which is within Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.
Jerry Hickman was born on November 28, 1955, to Lois and Robert Hickman in Davenport, IA. He graduated from West High School in 1974.Then pursued additional education in business before joining the army in 1986. Shortly after enlisting Jerry married his best friend and love of his life, his wife Lori, who preceded him in death. They had celebrated 36 years of marriage just before her passing.
While serving in the army Jerry was awarded many medals and honors including: Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal (3rd award) Kuwait liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, Overseas Service Ribbon (1), and the Expert Badge with Grenade Bar with Rifle Bar. He served in the Gulf War and luckily made it home.
Once Jerry returned home, he started his career as an over the road truck driver which he did very successfully for several years driving short and long distances before retiring due to ongoing medical conditions.
Jerry was selfless individual who always put others needs before his own. He was a giver who did the very best that he could to provide for his family. A quiet individual who loved tinkering on cars, building and collecting car models, and enjoyed building things. He had a passion for Nascar and was a very avid fan of the Petty family.
Jerry's final day on Earth was surrounded by his family including his three grandsons who loved and adored him.
He is survived by his three daughters: Crystal (Zach) Pool of Illinois City, IL, Candice Hickman of Davenport, IA, Courtney Hickman of Davenport, IA, three grandsons, as well as additional extended family.
