Jimmie Dean Guldenpfennig passed away peacefully in his home at age 66 on March 18, 2024. Jimmie was born on November 7, 1957, the youngest of four boys, to the late Leonard and Wilma (Meador) Guldenpfennig. He was raised and lived most of his life in the Buffalo, Iowa area.
Jimmie graduated from Davenport West High School in 1976 and was a very proud and formidable player on the 1974 Class 4A Iowa State Championship football team. That was an accomplishment he was always enthused to bring up at every opportunity in conversations with friends and family.
After high school, he answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980. He was primarily stationed in Hawaii and was fond of telling stories and sharing his Hawaiian life experiences with all who knew him.
Following military service, Jimmie built a life and dedicated almost 40 years to Linwood Mining and Minerals in Buffalo, retiring in 2021. He was reliable and could be counted on to work in the toughest weather conditions, and he had many good friends from the workplace. After retirement, during bad weather, he took every chance to say how happy he was to "not be working outside in this **** anymore."
Jimmie was his own man with simple tastes and deep passions, enjoying dank microbrews, dark coffee, great food, and specialized gardening. He watched sports, kept tabs on the weather, and researched wild unknowns online. His lifelong love of dogs started when he was a young boy, sharing spoonfuls of ice cream and popsicles with four-legged family members. His presence at gatherings with family and friends was a guarantee of lively conversation, laughter, and shared memories. Jimmie was always up for thoughtful debate and enjoyed trading barbs with anyone energetic enough to keep up.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his Mom & Dad, Leonard, and Wilma, as well as his brothers, Wayne L. (wife Bernice), Roger A., and Gene R. (wife Donnie). He leaves behind a close sister-in-law, Roger's wife Alice, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and multiple friends far and wide who will miss his stories and unique sense of humor.
In honor of Jimmie's life, all are encouraged to reflect on the memories shared with him and to find comfort in knowing he lived life his way – by his own rules and on his own terms.
In accordance with Jimmie's spirit and wishes, no funeral services will be held. Instead, a party for Jimmie will be scheduled for family and friends in mid-August.
Jimmie Dean Guldenpfennig – a proud non-conforming renegade hillbilly mountain cowboy outlaw – will be deeply missed.
