John "Goldfingers" Alva Fleming Sr, 84, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully on 4/18/23.
John retired from JI Case as an inspector. He was an active member of his church until he was almost 80 years old.
Depending on who you asked, he earned his nickname "Goldfingers" from being an incredible artist, a talented hobby carpenter, or maybe from a few high-stakes poker or craps games back in his prime. He also enjoyed the cb radio and a fresh pack of Redman tobacco (according to him since the age of 5 sneaking pinches from his dad). Later in life he simply looked forward to a hamburger and an ice-cold Pepsi on his lunch and dinner dates with kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents William "Ike" Fleming and Sophie Smith Fleming; siblings Gloria, Jessica, and Willie, and his children Gwen, John Jr, and Dolly.
He leaves behind his children Trellis, Valerie, Krystal, and Shaun as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on his Memory Page at mvcremation.com
