John Lyle Myers Jr., known affectionately as Jack to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on April 26, 2024, in his hometown of Davenport, Iowa.
Born on August 28, 1948, to the late John Myers Sr. and Betty Myers, Jack's life was one marked by devotion to his family, a passion for his hobbies, and a warm, engaging spirit that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Jack's journey began in Davenport, where he spent his entire life. He graduated from West High School in 1968 before embarking on a career as a skilled machinist, a trade that he mastered with precision and pride. On May 31, 1979, he married the love of his life, Janice "Jan" Myers, and together they built a family that would be the center of Jack's world.
He was a dedicated father to Kristine Myers (Laura), Jennifer Myers, Dana Lathrop (Mark), Kathryn Stoltenberg (Andrew), Cheri Oliver (Dustin), and Danny Pearson. His role as a grandfather to Ian, Chiane, Kera, Kelsea, Jessica, Alex, Drew, Trever, Matt, Winnie, and Paco, and as a great-grandfather to Tyler, Sophia, Hailey, Tyler, and Myah, brought him immeasurable joy.
Jack's love for life was evident in his varied interests and hobbies. He was an avid NASCAR fan, which echoed the thrill he experienced racing motorcycles in his youth. His voice was well known in the amateur ham radio community, where he connected with people from around the world for many years. A proud member of the Quad City Cruisers, he shared his love of classic cars with fellow enthusiasts. Beyond his human family, Jack had a soft spot for his animal companions. His cats, Callie and Caruso, along with his birds, were cherished members of the household and provided him with great comfort and companionship.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Myers Sr. and Betty Myers, his sister Beverly Dunkin, Sally Grant, and brother Gerald Myers. His legacy is carried on not only through his immediate family but also through the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit and infectious laughter. Though Jack may have been taken from this world by colon cancer, his resilience and strength in the face of adversity were an inspiration to all who knew him. His battle was fought with the same determination and grace that he carried throughout his life. As we say goodbye to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the pursuit of passions. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he loved, and his memory will live on as a beacon of joy and the embodiment of a life filled with purpose.
A gathering to honor Jack's life will be held by his family at a later date where stories will be shared, memories will be cherished, and his spirit will be remembered. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Scott County Humane Society. Jack Myers Jr. was a man of integrity, humor, and deep affection, and while he will be dearly missed, the legacy of his warmth and kindness will endure forever.
