Katheryn Lucinda Brakeville, affectionately known as Cindy, who passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, in Roseville, IL, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on June 29, 1951, in Galesburg, IL, Cindy's life was a tapestry of kindness, generosity, and spirited joy that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Cindy grew up in a loving family and was predeceased by her parents, Truman and Alice Brakeville, and her brother, James Brakeville. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family, including her nephew Jim Brakeville and his wife Stephanie, her nephew Donald "Norm" Brakeville and his wife Christy, as well as her adored great-nieces Caitlyn, Natalie, Emily, Hannah, Sydney, and Madelyn, and great-nephew Logan. Cindy also shared a special bond with Wayne and Megan Grant, who were like family to her.
An alumna of Warren School, Cindy's work ethic and friendly demeanor were hallmarks of her career. She was a familiar face to many in the community through her dedicated service at Farm King Supply, O'Reilly's, and Meling's Restaurant, among various side jobs. Cindy's professional life was characterized by her reliability and the warm, welcoming presence she brought to every interaction.
Beyond her work, Cindy was known for her passion for baking and tending to her garden, which were sources of great joy and relaxation for her. She also found excitement in the roar of engines at Norm's stock car races, where she was a constant and enthusiastic supporter.
Those who knew Cindy will remember her as the epitome of kindness and generosity. She had a spirit that refused to be dampened, even in the face of life's challenges. Her warm smile and the laughter she shared were gifts to those around her, and the memories of her unwavering positive outlook will continue to inspire.
Cindy's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on a community through simple acts of love and dedication. She nurtured her relationships with the same care she gave to her garden, and as a result, she cultivated a community of friends and family who felt deeply connected to her.
As we say goodbye to Cindy, we also celebrate the indelible mark she left on the world. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her example of kindness and generosity will continue to be a guiding light for us all.
Katheryn Lucinda Brakeville's life was a journey of joy, service, and love—a journey that has not ended but simply changed course. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain a part of the lives she touched. Today, we honor Cindy, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend, whose life was a beautiful reflection of the best of us.
The family would like express deep appreciation to the Roseville Rehab Center for their care. To the OSF Hospice team, you became her newest extended family. The love and compassion they showed Cindy and her family was exceptional. She greatly appreciated the conversations, snacks, coffee, Mt. Dews, prayers and the hugs! The last few months would have been daunting without their support.
A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
