Larry Dennis Hansen, 72, of Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.
Husband, Father, Friend, and Papa, which was his favorite title, came into this world with a purpose.
Larry was born to Ingwall and Betty Hansen. In high school, he was a gymnast and swimmer. He was a bit of a troublemaker and lost hearing in his left ear in an incident with friends and firecrackers.
Larry's time in the US Navy was a source of pride for him. He served on a peacekeeping ship and enthusiastically shared his adventures. His fondest memories were of the ports he visited, particularly Australia and Guam.
Larry loved his family with his whole being. He handled some of the most extreme health issues one can survive with grace. He taught us to keep going no matter what.
Larry had his first stroke at age 38 and kept living his life despite life-changing challenges. He loved road trips, camping, fishing, eating (always ready for second and sometimes third) breakfast, going for walks, being in the woods, and being near water. He loved his family fiercely.
Larry leaves behind his wife of nearly 49 years, Mary. The memories will last a lifetime, and she'd love to tell Larry that someone is (definitely) going to be eating those stuffed green peppers he has in the freezer.
Also heartbroken are his daughter Jen Hansen (Ross Kaczinski) and grandchildren Daniel, Jonah, and Sam. Larry loved fishing, magnet fishing, and going to yard sales with his boys and lived for his time with them. We'd be remiss in not mentioning the boys' friends who were so special to Papa; they grew up around our home and were frequent visitors, always joking around. Ty, Irey, Devin, Nate, Andrew. You guys still owe him $5 for dinner.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and precious daughter, Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization of your choice or to the family.
A Celebration of Life party, following Larry's wishes, will be announced at a later date. Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, Moline, is handling the arrangements.
After hearing of Larry's passing, one of his neighbors said it best, and we all feel the same way.
"Aw man... he was cool as s#?t!"
Larry's last words were "Good night, Everyone".
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on his Memory Page at mvcremation.com
