Lois C. Deal, 98, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, surrounded by family and friends at Bickford Cottage, Moline. Per her request, a private burial will be in Dwight, IL. Memorials may go to Genesis Hospice or her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church in East Moline.
Lois was born on February 5, 1925, the first of three daughters to Fred and Margaret Paulsen in Dwight, IL. She was an adventurous soul who worked for Naval Intelligence in Chicago at the US Customs Building with the highest security clearance of a civilian. She loved to dance; her fondest memories were of the Aragon Ballroom. She met Harris James Deal (Jim), a Northwestern University School of Dentistry student, at the Christmas Ball in 1950. They were married on July 28, 1951. Lois continued to work until their first child was born in May of 1953. After Jim’s graduation, they moved to Pennsylvania, Virginia Beach, and then to Kewanee, IL, where they purchased a dental practice and made lifelong friends who enjoyed dining out or a game of cards. Lois was past president of the Kewanee Hospital Auxiliary, and when relocating to East Moline, she continued her passion of volunteering for 28 years at Illini Hospital.
Those left to honor her memory are her children: Fred (Marji), Flagstaff, AZ, Becky (Paul) Brownfield, Prunedale, CA and Barb, East Moline, IL; sister Velda Paulsen; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, sparkling blue eyes, and beautiful smile. Special thanks to her longtime friends Barb Tharp, Linda Jones, Kate Devine, Jeff, and Jerry Giorno, and the beloved caregivers whom she adored.
Her husband Jim, parents, and sister Dorothy Anderson preceded her in death.
