Marian Marie Murphy, a beacon of creativity and love, passed away at the age of 92, on April 7, 2024, in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Born on September 27, 1931, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Marian was a figure of unwavering warmth and generosity throughout her life.
Marian's early years were spent in the town of her birth, where she completed her high school education, laying the foundation for her future endeavors. She raised a loving family and, as her children embarked on their own journeys, Marian pursued a career that reflected her meticulous nature and attention to detail. She became a skilled Claims Adjuster for Fireman's Fund Insurance, retiring in 1989 after years of dedicated service.
The matriarch of an extensive and cherished family, Marian is survived by her devoted children from her previous marriage to Jerry Chase: Dan Chase (Carol Palmer), deceased Gregg Chase (Sandy Bridge-Chase), David Chase (Marla), Laura Chase-Smith (Glenn), and Jim Chase. The Murphy family, including: Chris, Russ, Cindy, Ken, Dale, Debbie, Mark, and David, also held a loving place in her heart. She was a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother to a legion of descendants who brought her immense joy with their visits, calls and stories.
Marian's creative spirit was unmatched. Her hands were rarely still, as she channeled her love into sewing, macramé, embroidery, cross-stitch, crewel, knitting, and crocheting. Her handmade Christmas ornaments and crocheted afghans were not just gifts but treasured heirlooms that embodied her love and care. She left an indelible mark on the world, one stitch at a time.
Her zest for life extended beyond her crafts. Marian was an avid traveler, exploring the United States with her beloved husband, Murph, in their GMC Jimmy. Their winters were spent hosting at National Parks, where they forged lifelong friendships. The memories she created on these adventures, especially the cherished trip to England with her granddaughter, Sarah, were amongst her most precious.
Marian's love for her home on the Mississippi River was profound. The ever-changing panorama of birds, wildlife, and river activity provided her with endless delight.
She was an avid sports watcher and could tell you about tennis, players and NFL football as well as her lifelong baseball team, the Cubs. She was so happy when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.
A skilled baker and candy maker, Marian's English Toffee and Fruitcake became staples during the holiday season, eagerly awaited by friends and family alike.
Her life was also graced with the companionship of her feline friends, the latest being "pretty kitty Callie," who now brings comfort to her son, Jim. Marian's home was a hub of love, creativity, and kinship, reflecting the essence of who she was.
Marian's legacy is one of love and generosity. She was always there to offer support, wisdom, and a listening ear to anyone in need. Her love was unconditional, her advice insightful, and her presence a source of comfort. She shared her love without expectation, embodying the true spirit of giving.
In 2002, Marian bid farewell to her beloved Murph. It is the family's heartfelt wish that she has now been reunited with him, continuing their journey together in eternal peace.
Marian Marie Murphy lived her life as a testament to the power of creativity and love. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy will live on through the beautiful works she created, the stories she shared, and the love she spread so generously.
A private gathering will be held.
