Mark Alan Wilmot, known affectionately to all as Mark or Cowboy, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 26, 2024. Born on August 5, 1954, in Galesburg, Illinois, Mark's journey through life was always centered around family.
Mark served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Mark's dedication during his military service was a testament to his strength of character and his love for his country.
After his military service, Mark returned home and to the Mississippi River, where he worked on the barges with a passion that only those who loved the river could truly understand. It was on these waters that Mark's soul felt most at peace, and he would often share tales of this time with anyone willing to listen.
Mark enjoyed fishing and spending time at the river with family and friends. Mark never met a stranger, was kind and friendly with all.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Dale W. Wilmot and step-father, Earl D. Tessier and step-brother, Keith Tessier. He is survived by his mother, Ramona M. (Hiatt) Wilmot Tessier, 2 brothers, Matt Wilmot and Michael Wilmot, sister Marcie (Wilmot) Rud. step-brothers, Max Tessier and Aaron Tessier and step-sister, Shelly (Tessier) Ryner and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
As we bid farewell to Mark Alan Wilmot, we celebrate the life of a man who always put family first. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever drift on the currents of the Mississippi River and his memory in the hearts of his loved ones.
