Mary Gilmore, known for her kindness, love, and heart of a servant, left us on November 8, 2024. Mary lived a life filled with service to others. She was a hard worker, dedicated employee, and had an exemplary work ethic. She was fun, witty and known for seeing the heart of the issue and holding others accountable for their actions. She enjoyed driving and was always eager to give friends and friends of friends help by providing them transportation when needed. She died suddenly, due to acute myeloid leukemia, much too soon, at the age of 62.
Mary was survived by her loving partner of 24 years, Mike Swaim, sister Annette Floyd, nieces and nephews Gable Swoboda, Martha (Dan) Ward, Meredith, John and Joseph Floyd; grandnieces Penelope Yerkovich, Leonora, Henrietta and Wilhelmina Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Delores Wilson. Mary was richly blessed with a loving family of over 35 first cousins, special recognition to Kathy Kruger, Bernie Schlemmer, and Teresa Stogdill. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends and family events will not be the same without her!
Mary was born May 18, 1962, graduated in 1981, lived in Davenport, and passed away at University of Iowa Hospital. A special thank you to all the nursing staff at the hospital for their loving end of life care.
A celebration of life will be held for Mary in the spring and details will be shared at a future time.
God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing (Ps. 68:6).
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death. (Ps. 68:19-20)
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on her Memory Page at mvcremation.com.
