Mary Lou dedicated over 40 years to her career as a registered nurse. Her compassion for others shone brightly. Her nursing talents were not just a profession; they were a calling that allowed her to make a real difference.
Her journey as a nurse began with her service as a Naval nurse stationed in Virginia, where she met her loving husband, John M. Simmons. They were united in marriage on December 14th, 1968, creating a life together filled with laughter, support, and unwavering love. Together, they welcomed three children into their family: John J. Simmons, Katherine Maher, and Jennifer Zorich. Each of their children carries a piece of Mary Lou's spirit, reflecting her kindness and nurturing heart.
As a grandmother, she delighted in the joy of her grandchildren, Sophie, Bella, Charlie, Thea, Will, George, and Dylan. Mary Lou’s eyes sparkled with pride and love whenever they were nearby, and she cherished every moment spent with her family.
Aside from her dedication to family and her profession, Mary Lou had a deep passion for gardening. An accomplished gardener, she found happiness in nurturing her beloved flowers, especially marigolds, and zinnias, which brightened her surroundings. She also had a profound love for reading, and there was never a jigsaw puzzle she failed to finish.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, John M. Simmons; children, John J. Simmons, Katherine Maher, and Jennifer Zorich; grandchildren, Sophie, Bella, Charlie, Thea, Will, George, and Dylan; and her sister, Martha (Sis) McNamara.
