Michael Conroy

September 15, 1949 — December 22, 2023

Michael J. Conroy Jr., known fondly as Mike to his friends and family, completed his valiant and inspiring battle with cancer on December 22, 2023, at his residence in Rock Island, IL surrounded by his family. Born in Davenport, IA, on September 15, 1949, Mike's journey through life was marked by courage, intelligence, and an abundance of love that he shared generously with all who knew him.

Mike was the eldest of nine siblings, a testament to his natural role as a leader and protector within his family. His brothers, David (Mary) Conroy, Jeff (Evette) Conroy, Steve (Deb) Conroy, Greg (Jo) Conroy, Tim (Rochelle) Conroy, Robert Conroy, and sister Christine Conroy, will cherish his memory alongside many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Mike's legacy continues through his beloved daughters, Nysha Conroy (Rodney) and Renee Conroy; his grandchildren, Daysha Conroy (Deonta), Kiaree Loggins, Enayjah Barnes, Kenlee Coleman; and great-grandchildren, Malaya Barber, Deonta Robinson Jr, Della Robinson, Kendalyn Brown. His dearest friend in the world, Sue, will hold close the memories they made together. Preceding him in death were his sister Mary Conroy, parents Michael Conroy Sr. and Mary Conroy, his wife, Judith Conroy and grandsons, Keaton and Colton.

Mike was a proud graduate of Alleman High School's Class of '67. His commitment to service led him to join the United States Army in 1972, where he served his country with honor until his discharge in 1974. Mike's pursuit of education continued as he earned his Associate's Degree in Applied Science from Black Hawk College in May of 1984. His professional life was dedicated to Roadway Express, from where he retired, and he was a proud member of the Teamsters. Golf was Mike's passion, and his unique way of marking his golf balls with two blue dots earned him the affectionate nickname "Mikey Two Dots" among his friends. Retirement allowed him to embrace the snowbird lifestyle, as he eagerly anticipated his annual escapes to Arizona. There, he could indulge in his love for golf year-round, a pleasure that brought him immense joy. Mike's life was a portrait of courage, not only in his fight against cancer but also in the way he lived every day with positivity and resilience. His intelligence was evident in his thoughtful conversations, his strategic approach to golf, and his ability to solve problems both on and off the course. Above all, Mike was loving. His warm presence and caring nature made him a cherished figure in the lives of his extensive family and friends. Mike's journey here may have ended, but his influence continues to ripple through the lives of those he touched. His story is one of enduring strength, laughter shared on the fairways, and the tender moments with family that paint the picture of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
