Michael W. Spiegel, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, in East Moline, IL, at the age of 57. Born on August 30, 1967, in Moline, IL, to Patricia and the late James Spiegel, Michael's life was a testament to the joy and laughter he brought to all who knew him.
Michael's early years in Moline were filled with the thrill of BMX racing, where he displayed his competitive spirit and earned many trophies; his love for sports continued throughout his life as a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, the Cubs, the Illinois Fighting Illini, as well as NASCAR and stock car racing. Michael's passion for these pastimes was only matched by his love for rock & roll music, attending numerous concerts.
The Fourth of July was a special time for Michael; he reveled in the holiday festivities and took great pleasure in organizing an annual firework display with his friend Brian. This event became a much-anticipated tradition for family, friends, and neighbors, highlighting Michael's love for bringing people together in celebration.
Michael's sense of humor was legendary. He loved to laugh and had an innate ability to infuse any gathering with joy and mirth. His laughter was infectious, and his presence at parties, whether hosted by himself or others, was always a highlight. Michael's warmth and generosity of spirit made every occasion memorable.
He is survived by his loving mother, Patricia; his brother, Jim (Denise) Spiegel, of Moline; his niece, Katy Spiegel of Clinton; nephews Adam and John of Davenport; and cousins Kathy Schwartz (Edwar) Salinas, Jacob Schwartz, and Justin Tillman. Michael was preceded in death by his father, James; his grandparents; his aunt, Marylou; his uncle, Bob; and cousin, Susan Smith; and his beloved fur babies, Penny and Shadow.
Michael's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Erica, Holli, and Christy of Beacon Of Hope for their compassionate care and for sharing in Michael's love of music by humming along with him to his favorite songs. The family would like to give a special thank you to Steve, Holli, Brian, Scooba, Sheila, Scott, Chauch, Adele, Karl, and LaVonne for spending so much time with them and helping the family with anything they needed.
We celebrate a life well-lived and full of love. His memory will continue to inspire us to cherish every moment, to find joy in the simple things, and always to approach life with a smile. Michael, your laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
