Neta Mae Sparks
February 15, 1953-February 18, 2023
Neta Sparks, 70, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away February 18 at Davenport Good Samaritan Society after a yearlong battle with Ovarian Cancer. At this time there is no visitation or services being held, however a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.
Neta was born on February 15, 1953, in Memphis, Tennessee to Virginia & Wilfred “Paul” Weathers. She graduated from United Township High School. She had aspirations of becoming a missionary & attended bible college for a while. She also studied surgical technology. Ultimately Neta was a homemaker. She had a kind & gentle, quiet spirit about her. She was her parent’s firstborn “Gerber baby” & their Valentine’s Day gift.
Neta loved God & her family. She accepted Jesus into her heart at a young age & followed him. She had a love of music. She played the organ. She loved many genres of music; especially gospel, soul, blues, & country. She loved to listen to live music. Going to “listen to the band” was her & her husband’s favorite thing to do. She loved to travel. She was able to travel and live in many different places, but Montana was her favorite. She loved the beauty & tranquility of Montana. She was very active & loved to go for long walks outside. She found happiness in so many things. She even took Karate classes with her late husband. She enjoyed thrift store shopping, the site of a bald eagle or owl; she thought Elk were beautiful. During her cancer journey, she fought so hard to live. She was determined to beat it. She was claiming her miracle of being healed & even though it didn’t happen on this earth, she has surely been healed in heaven. In that we find comfort & joy.
Those left to cherish Neta’s memory include her husband, Jerry Sparks, Davenport; children, Sherry Meister (Jon Huene) East Moline; Frank Fisher, Davenport; Gwendolyn Fischer (Craig), Boise, Idaho; Mother Virginia Weathers, Tupelo, Mississippi; brother Paul Weathers, Davenport; sister’s Sandy Spears, Guntown, Mississippi; Renee Willard (Dennis) Tupelo, Mississippi; 5 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren.
