Nona Louise Milakovich was born on December 15, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She died on December 28, 2022 in Davenport, Iowa. Her parents, Claude and Edna Chilcoat, raised three children: Dana, Nona, and Terry. Nona was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on September 5, 1948. She married George Milakovich on August 28, 1954.
Nona was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Claude and Edna, and her older sister Dana Farlin. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Greg and Sandra Milakovich, and Curt and Mary Milakovich. Her grandson: Eliott (Ricquel) Milakovich, and two granddaughters: MacKenzie Milakovich, and Elizabeth Milakovich. Her two great-grandchildren: Penny and Teddy. And her younger brother: Terry Chilcoat.
Nona cherished her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Halfway through her life she began to develop a previously hidden talent as a gifted artist. She enjoyed drawing and painting for the rest of her life.
Since she was a young girl, most important to Nona was her faith founded on the Bible-based hope of a future earthly paradise, where those who have died will be resurrected and no longer suffer from pain, sickness, and disabilities. Many of her friends’ fondest memories are of spending time with Nona teaching others about this hope. And many others are grateful for the part Nona played in helping them to learn about their God Jehovah and develop a strong faith in that same hope. This hope is beautifully expressed at Job 14:14, 15: “If a man dies can he live again? I will wait ... until my relief comes. You will call, and I will answer you.” More about Nona’s life values can be found and reflected upon at jw.org.
The family wishes to thank Good Samaritan Home Health Care, ProMedica Utica Ridge Senior Care, and ProMedica Hospice Care for their kind care of Nona. And they wish to extend a special thank you to the Bettendorf and West Davenport Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses for their spiritual, emotional and practical support.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on her Memory Wall.
