Richard A. Lundy, known affectionately as Richard, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on March 13, 1948, in Moline, Illinois, Richard's journey through life was marked by his loving nature, unwavering friendliness, and exceptional generosity. His final days were spent in Rock Island, Illinois, surrounded by the warmth of family and the memories of a life well-lived.
A proud graduate of Moline High School, class of 1966, Richard carried the spirit of his youth throughout his life. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures and who dedicated his career to the service of others. His professional life was spent at IBP, where his hard work and dedication were well-known and respected. He also served his community through his involvement with Indian Trails Campground, where he made lasting friendships and shared his love for the great outdoors.
Richard's passion for classic and die-cast cars was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with others who shared his enthusiasm. He was especially proud of his vintage Pontiac, which he spent untold hours restoring and tinkering with. He entered it in many car shows and had a room filled with the many trophies it had won as a testament to his love of it. Many will remember the twinkle in his eye as he discussed the latest addition to his collection or reminisced about the cars of yesteryear. His interests were a bridge to heartfelt conversations and the formation of cherished friendships.
Above all, Richard was a family man. He is survived by his son, Jason Lundy, and daughter, Judy Lundy, who both inherited their father's kind heart and generous spirit. His sister, Diana Jacobsen, will fondly recall the countless memories they made together. Richard's family was the cornerstone of his life, and his love for them was evident to all who knew him.
Despite the challenges he faced with Alzheimer's Disease in his later years, Richard's character never wavered. He faced each day with courage and a smile that could light up any room. His resilience and positive outlook served as an inspiration to those around him, and his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dorothy Lundy, a daughter, Vickie Lundy, and a sister, Donna Hamrick.
Richard's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and generosity. He was a beacon of kindness in his community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will endure in the stories told and the laughter shared in his honor.
As we say goodbye to Richard A. Lundy, we celebrate the remarkable man he was. His journey on earth may have ended, but the imprints of his love and kindness remain indelible in our hearts. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
