Richard "Rick" Shaffnit, a man who could light up a room with his laughter and charm, passed away on August 18, 2023, at his home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Born on December 2, 1958, in Davenport, IA,
Rick was a man who lived life to the fullest, always ready with a joke or a funny story to share. His heart, as big as his humor, unfortunately gave out, but not before he filled our lives with joy and laughter. Rick was a proud graduate of Rock Island High School, where he was known for his quick wit and infectious laughter. After high school, he served in the United States Marine Corps, proving that even in the toughest of situations, humor can be found. He then spent 34 years at Mid American Energy Company, where he was known as the a hard worker and comedian, always ready to lighten the mood or make a coworker smile. He retired in November 2022, trading in his work boots for golf shoes.
Rick was a man of many passions. He was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and he could often be found cheering on his teams with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. He loved playing pool, going bowling, and participating in tournaments. He was an avid traveler, always ready for a new adventure. But his true love was golf. He loved the game, the camaraderie, and the chance to be outdoors. And of course, the opportunity to crack a few jokes along the way.
Rick was a loving father to his daughters, Angela (Aaron) and Kayla (Brad), and a doting grandfather to his granddaughters, Josalyn, Lily, Presleigh, and Lennon. He was a beloved brother to his sister Teri (Joe) Miller, a fun-loving uncle to his nephew Joe (Laurie) Miller and their sons Collin and Ethan, and his niece Jillian (Jeff) Spellman and their daughter Logan. He also leaves behind his ex-wife Lori Shaffnit, with whom he shared many laughs and memories.
Rick was a man who loved life and lived it on his terms. He was loving, funny, and friendly, always ready with a smile or a joke. He had a knack for making people feel at ease and could always be counted on to bring a touch of humor to any situation. He was a man who knew how to enjoy the simple things in life, whether it was a good joke, a round of golf, or a game on TV.
In the end, Rick Shaffnit was a man who knew how to make people laugh, and he did so until the very end. He will be remembered for his humor, his love of life, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. His laughter will echo in our hearts, and his spirit will live on in the stories we tell and the memories we share. So, let's raise a glass to Rick, a man who lived life to the fullest and made us all laugh along the way. Here's to you, Rick. You will be missed, but your laughter will live on.
