Richard VanSpybrook, 69, formerly of Rock island, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at River Crossing, Moline. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to attend may meet at the cemetery, 4205 30th Street, Rock Island.
Richard was born May 12, 1952 in Moline, the son of Phil and Ayre (Freeze) VanSpybrook. As a child, he enjoyed playing at Longview Park and as a teenager loved going to the roller rink in Milan. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and then pursued a career as a tool and die maker, working at Whitey's Machine Co.
He loved his dogs, including Hank and Jake, and enjoyed time spent fishing, hunting and getting together with his family.
Richard was a member of the Eagles Club, Rock Island.
He will be missed by his family; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barb (Jim) Elmer, Phyllis McDermott, Karla (Terry), Mason and Anna Byrd (Tom Flynn); many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.
The family would like to thank Dr. Costas Constantinou and staff, UnityPoint Hospice, Trinity Cancer Center and Mississippi Valley Cremation for their care and support. A special thanks to the family and friends of Richard for being there at the end of his journey.
