Robert W. Hoyt, "Pappy", of Rock Island, 74, was called home on September 30th, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9th, 2022 at 1:30PM at Gimpy's on 150 in Rio, Illinois.
Robert was born to Robert and Gwendolyn (Cissell) Hoyt on September 16th, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois. He attended St. Joseph's Academy and Costa High School before promoting himself to the school of life. Bob spent the early part of his life traveling around the world in search of adventure, mischief, and fun. He loved sharing stories from this time with everyone. From Studebakers with mattresses to hitchhiking in Mexico to white witches with Day Glo bunnies - all of his stories were true.
In 1974, he met his angel, Debra Sue Darrah, and they were married on May 17, 1975. Bob and Deb shared so much laughter, love, and tears as they built their family that he was so proud of.
The adventures never stopped with Bob, and he was a jack of many trades. He took his job as dad most seriously and enjoyed raising his girls. In 2009, he became a grandfather. Bob loved spending time with "his boys", taking them to parks, swimming pools, and attending all of their games and activities.
Pappy loved to karaoke, play poker and enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and family.
His life was full of love, and he lived out his philosophy to live each day like life will never end and like it might be your last day. He will be remembered by many and live on in the stories that people tell. He will be greatly missed.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, and many friends. Those left to honor his memory: his wife, Debra S. Hoyt, his children Kassondra Hoyt (Dan Sturms), Kallina (Nick) Goldsby-Pearson, Kendra (Nathan) Smith, Jeremy (Elise) Stambaugh, grandchildren Kyler Goldsby, Hunter York, Damon Pearson, and Ali Sturms, sister and brothers, Tina (Carl) Gerks, Timothy (Mindy) Hoyt, and Douglas Hoyt, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
