Sharon K. Kiel, age 83, of Silvis, IL, sadly passed away from Dementia on November 30, 2024, at Aspen Rehab & Health Care, Silvis, surrounded by family. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded at Mississippi Valley Cremations.
Sharon was born in Moline, IL, on September 30, 1941, the daughter of Alfred and Helen Liedtke. She married Roy Woodhurst in 1958 and had two sons, Rodney and Dennis, and one daughter, Dawn. Sharon had two more daughters, Anna and Shannon. She raised all five children in their Silvis home.
Sharon talked about her biggest career accomplishments, which were the two decades she worked as a CNA at the East Moline Care Center, Quint City Home Healthcare, and lastly, in-home healthcare for the elderly.
Sharon will be remembered in part for working hard to provide for her five children, her laugh, for teasing others, playing card games, being an avid fan of "Golden Girls," shopping (especially at Kohls), her love of dancing when out with friends, being straightforward with her opinion, quite often making tacos for dinner (the aroma of the cooking oil and corn shells would fill the air), her making and sharing her fudge, Heavenly Pink Salad dessert and white chocolate/peanut butter/cracker Christmas cookies during the holidays, and for many years her nightly phone calls with her best friend/sister Cheryl at which time she could be heard talking and laughing for what seemed like hours.
She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who included her in as many activities as possible.
Sharon endured nearly 10 years of Dementia, which slowly robbed her of all cognitive skills and ultimately impaired her ability to function. Her family finds peace knowing she is free of pain now and has reunited with her beloved daughter, Anna, as well as many family and friends who've passed.
She is survived by her sons, Rodney "Rod" Woodhurst, Perry, MO; Dennis "Dean" Woodhurst (Robin), Carbon Cliff, IL; and daughters, Dawn Marner, Moline, IL and Shannon Liedtke Lawver, Silvis, IL; grandchildren Shannon Moneymaker, Adam Woodhurst, Amber Woodhurst, Dylann Teager, Brianna Liedtke Lawver, Brittany Espinal and Brinden Lawver. Sharon is also survived by brothers Darrel Liedtke, Larry Liedtke, and Don Liedtke, as well as sisters Cheryl Stoner and Judith Bilyeu.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred "Al" and Helen Liedtke, her daughter, Anna Marie Brewer, and siblings, Barbara Jean Jackson and Gerald "Jerry" Liedtke. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Unity Point Hospice staff (with a special shout-out to Mark) and her caregivers at Aspen Rehab & Health Care, Silvis.
