Surachai Khaokrue, a proud Khon mask maker whose laughter was as infectious as his craftsmanship was meticulous, passed away at the age of 50 on August 18, 2024, in Iowa City, IA.

Born on September 13, 1973, in the bustling city of Bangkok, Thailand. He was the beloved husband of Saisamorn Khaokrue and the loving father of Kritsada and Kritsana Khaokrue. Surachai's family was the centerpiece of his life, and his devotion to them was as evident as the humor he infused in every interaction. His legacy is carried on through his children's smiles and the stories that will continue to be told with a chuckle.

Those who knew Surachai remember him as funny, friendly, and interesting—a trifecta of traits that made him a magnet for camaraderie and storytelling. His sense of humor was as finely tuned as his artistic skills, with a quip and a smile always ready for friends and strangers alike. Surachai's life was a tapestry woven with joy, artistry, and the love of those closest to him.
