Susan Kay Leander, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, in her hometown of LeClaire, Iowa, where she had been a lifelong resident since her birth on October 23, 1945. Susan, known for her loving and thoughtful nature, left this world as she lived in it, surrounded by the natural beauty she cherished so deeply.

Susan's journey began as the daughter of Harold and Georgiana Haessler, whose values of compassion and community spirit were deeply instilled in her from an early age. She found joy in the simplicity of life in LeClaire, a place that she would eventually contribute to through her entrepreneurial spirit as the owner of the beloved Olathea Golf Course. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to wildlife rehabilitation and her passion for gardening with flowers, activities that reflected her profound respect for all living things.

Her life was one of connection and love, a tapestry woven with the bonds of family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Jami Morash, and her late son, Jason Leander. Susan's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ethan and Parker Morash, who will carry forward her lessons of kindness and her appreciation for nature. Though she was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Leander, Susan found companionship and joy in her later years with her partner in life, Frank Lux. Amy and Ali Lux stood by her as very special people, their lives enriched by Susan's gentle presence.
