Wanda Carnes, affectionately known to many as "Hula," passed away on April 12, 2025, in Milan, Illinois, at the remarkable age of 97. Born on May 30, 1927, in Metropolis, Illinois, Wanda's vibrant spirit and zest for life touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Wanda had a successful career at Jaydon in Milan, where her steadfast commitment and cheerful disposition endeared her to colleagues. Following a well-earned retirement, she engaged fully in the pursuits that brought her joy—most notably, shopping excursions that invigorated her spirit, frequent visits to the casino, where she would spend hours listening to the slot machines sing, and traveling with her friends and family.
Wanda is survived by her beloved son, Marty (Leiza) Carnes; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Carnes; her grandson, Todd Carnes; her granddaughter, Tonya (Jerry) Bonilla; as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who adored her.
Wanda reunites now with her beloved husband, William Walter Carnes, who preceded her in death, along with her son, Tony Carnes, and her dear parents, Lena Meschar (James) and Farris James. She is also joined once more with many siblings who have passed before her.
While we mourn her departure, we celebrate the incredible woman she was—an embodiment of love, laughter, and light. Wanda Carnes will be deeply missed but forever cherished; her memory will be etched in the hearts of those she left behind.
