William David Hampton, 67, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his home in Davenport, IA, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on July 30, 1954, in McKinney, TX. He married his best friend, Shirley, in August of 1972 in Denison, TX. He had a love for family, music, tinkering with cars, playing guitar, and taking leisurely walks with his wife. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” by the neighborhood kids because he would fix their toys, bikes, etc. for free. David was smart, loved taking long walks, playing the guitar and his dog, Dubi. He was a great husband, father and brother.
David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Laird Hampton, two daughters, Neda Hampton of Marlin, TX, and Carrie Hampton of Davenport, IA; grandchildren Pam, Jay, and Christopher; four great-grandchildren; sisters Connie Goodman of Ladera Ranch, CA, Gayle Durrett of Pottsboro, TX; brothers Mike Hampton of Houston, TX, Rick Hampton of Mansfield, TX, and friend Joe Holecek.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Hampton and Neda McBroom Hampton: grandparents Albert and Edith Hampton, William C. McBroom and Edna Miller McBroom Lay, John Lay; brother Ronald Hampton, and grandchildren Emily, Joey, Stephen and Porsha.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
