William (Bill) Ellison Kelly
January 3, 1929 – October 12, 2021
On Tuesday, October 12th, Korean War Veteran, William (Bill) Ellison Kelly, age 92, of Rock Island, took his final breath on earth, leaving family and friends for his next journey traveling onto our Lord.
Bill was preceded in death by his spouse, LaVerna Darleen (Meyer), his parents, Clarence William and Ruth Gladys (Bumgardner) Kelly, brother George, sister Constance, and son, Kevin Patrick.
He is survived by daughters, Kristy Lynn (Arthur) Durham, Kathleen Rose (Don, deceased) Ketelsen, and Koleen Michele (Charles) DeLaRosa, 19 grandchildren, 36 Great-grandchildren, 15 Great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and holding hands at the end, his loving companion Judy Saylor, her son Chris, daughter Amy and granddaughter, Lilie.
Bill was born on January 3, 1929 in Newton, IA, later moving to Davenport where he graduated from Davenport High before entering the Army. He served in F. Co. 109th Inf, 28th Div, as head cook, supervising the meals for 900 troops while overseas in Germany. Later he worked in sales, owned his own Pizza & Sub shop, and after his wife passed, he met Judy and spent the last 37 years refinishing and selling antiques, estate sales and RV traveling for antiques shows. Bill enjoyed golf and boating, especially sailing with his son-in-law, Art. He was especially proud of his service to our country, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Military Honors Service will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Friday, October 22nd at 1pm. Arrangements by Mississippi Valley Cremation. Those attending are asked to arrive at Wendt Funeral in Moline by 12:30pm to proceed to the cemetery.
