William J. McCoy, known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, at the age of 82 in Milan, IL. Born on June 12, 1941, in Wilton, IA, Bill was a man of intelligence, adventure, and an interesting character who lived a full life marked by dedication to his work and love for his family.
Bill's career at the Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric Co. spanned an impressive 45 years, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many as he read their meters. His commitment to his work was only matched by his involvement in various associations, where he contributed his time and energy with the same passion he brought to every endeavor.
An intelligent man, Bill possessed an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, which was evident in his love for reading.
He is survived by his loving sister, Janice Eckelberg, and his three brothers, John, Pat, and Mike. Bill's legacy continues through his granddaughter in Georgia, Crystal, and his great-grandson, who will carry forward his adventurous spirit and love for life. Although Bill grieved deeply for his two daughters, who preceded him in death from cancer, he found comfort in the memories and love they left behind.
